Monte Paterno (2744 m)

For professionals with fixed-aid climbing experience: secure step, without fear of heights and with sufficient stamina.

Point of departure: Locatelli Hut (2450 m), accessible via Dobbiaco from (Landro Lake - Rienza Valley) or Sesto/Moso (Piano Fiscalina Hut - Fondo Valle Hut) or from the Auronzo Hut car park with toll access to Misurina Lake.

Route: From the Locatelli Hut on the beaten path in the direction of "Frankfurter Würstel" to the tunnel entry. At the end of the tunnel secured with a wired rope to the Sella dei Camosci Gap, then hold on to the right and then steeply up to the peak. Cocentrate on your step on the debris peak area - there are many, sometimes confusing paths. After the peak, back to the Sella dei Camosci Gap, and from there through the groove for a few metres downwards, and then the War Path to Forcella Lavaredo.

Duration: Ascent and descent one hour each.

Interesting: the Monte Paterno is an impressive pointy rock in the Sesto Dolomites. In addition to numerous climbing passages, the exciting Innerkofler fixed-aid climb also leads to its peak: like all fixed-aid climbs in this area, this is a path dating back to World War I. A specialty is the approx. 600 m long tunnel through the rock - helmet and headlight are obligatory! Those who choose the fixed-aid climb in the direction of the Forcella Lavaredo after descending from the Sella dei Camosci Gap, will enjoy a beautiful view over wonderful landscape.

Torre di Toblin (2627 m)

For professionals with fixed-aid climbing experience: secure step, without fear of heights and with sufficient stamina.

Point of departure: Locatelli Hut (2,450 m), as above

Route: Behind the Locatelli Hut take the path in the direction of the peak; after a few minutes you reach a sign-post. Following the sign-post you hike past the peak to the left and follow the sign-posts. You will reach bands and afterwards, after hiking past the peak to the north, you reach the entry to the "Friends of the Dolomites" (Dolomitenfreunde) fixed-aid climb. Now for approx. 140 m, sometimes rather adventurous but for the most part problemless, you reach the peak after using steel ladders (approx. 17). True highlights are the rather wide chimney, where you have to change from one wall to the other (small people might not reach the other wall!) and the crossing on slippery, bent hooks in a steep wall. Ascent takes place via a well sign-posted and not difficult "Feldkurat-Hosp" fixed-aid climb.

Duration: Ascent from hut 45 min., descent from peak to hut 40 min.
