Walking paths in the Dolomites of Sexten Sesto
Sesto is a paradise for hikers and climbers. In addition to demanding tours it also offers comfortable walking paths with a beautiful panoramic view, through meadows and forests and past traditional huts.
Forest path to the Fischleintal Valley
Walking time: 2 ½ hours
Sign-post: red-white 1A;
Difference in altitude: 200 m;
Rewarding walk with benches.
In close proximity to the main square in Sesto over the bridge, then about 50 metres up to a barn, turn left and follow the path between the fences. Turn left at the edge of the forest and hike along the fields until reaching the wide path coming from Moos. Walking upwards we reach the ruins of Haideck Fortress. The path is almost flat and leads through forests and meadows, then through a larch forest to Hotel Dolomitenhof. From here a wide path (closed for traffic) leads to the Talschluss Hut. On the last section of the hike you enjoy an unforgettable view of the Sesto Dolomites.
Moos - Klammbachalm
Walking time: 2 ½ hours
Sign-post: red-white-red No. 13;
Difference in altitude: 600 m;
Mostly forest paths, minor gradient.
An asphalt path leading onto a forest path starts left of the church in Moos. The path leads along the ravine of the Sesto River and through dense spruce forests. Now and again you can enjoy a free view of the Sesto Dolomites. After about 2 hours your reach the border of the Alpe Nemes, the Saumahd. At the high wayside cross, an old forest mark, a flat path leads to the Alpe Nemes Hut. On the left, a good hiking path leads to Klammbachalm Hut.
Sesto - Waldkapelle
Walking time: 1 hour
Sign-post: red-white-red 4d;
Difference in altitude: 230 m;
Short, but recommendable walk.
From the village square you take the mountain path to the Hößlerhöfen farms; turn left and follow the track to the Ladstätterhof farm at the edge of the forest. Now you hike through the forest, again through meadows and into a fir forest, where you will get to the cemetery chapel. During World War I farmers used this chapel as an emergency church, since the parish church had been destroyed by shell fires.
