The nature park Fanes-Senes-Braies (Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage) comprises an area of over 25,000 hectares across the parishes of Badia, Braies, Dobbiaco, La Valle, Marebbe and Valdaora. It is framed by the Val Pusteria valley to the North and the South Tyrolean border to the South. Its Western regions extend almost as far as the Val Badia valley. The region delights with dense forests, high rock faces, the karstified plateaus of Fanes and Senes and the expansive pastures and colourful mountain meadows. The protected area also includes several lakes: Lago di Braies and Lago di Dobbiaco are two of the most well-known natural lakes in South Tyrol.

Since 2009 the Three Peaks and the Fanes-Senes-Braies nature parks have been part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage and belong to the European network of nature reserves Natura 2000, which focuses on protecting the habitats of wild animals and plants.
