Collection of remembrance cards in House Wassermann
A true treasure for historians and people interested in culture is the "Wassermann" collection in Villabassa. The elderly women Emma and Theres Wassermann collected a vast amount of valuable objects during their lives. These objects were acquired by the municipality and are now presented as the "Wassermann Collection".
The collection of remembrance cards, which consists of 18,000 different cards and is probably the biggest collection of this type in South Tyrol is also very interesting. In order to make this collection available to everyone, the Villabassa community has digitalised all remembrance cards. With a simple click on the computer you have access to the collection. You can view a certain remembrance card and even get a copy.
House Wassermann in Villabassa
This house is located along the main Puster Valley road in the village centre of Villabassa. During the 15th century the von Kurz noble family resided here. Later on the house was handed over to an untitled family. From 1892 to 1977 the house was in possession of the Wassermann Family, who realised a café with patisserie. At the same time, the cultivated coffee house owners started to collect folkloristic objects. The preserved remains of the "Wassermann Collection" provide the core of the Tourism Museum.
The renovated house impresses with its ambience, with impressive wood panels, wall frescoes and the furniture.
