Alpine hiking paths in the Dolomites
Alpine Dolomites Hiking Path No. 1
A new type of alpine tourism has been realised with the "Alpine Path No. 1". The summery alpine paths in the Dolomites connect several huts via more or less long and demanding hikes, which provide, however, no problem for experienced hikers.
"Alpine Path No. 1" is the most classic, since it crosses the heart of the Dolomites from north to south (or vice versa), from the Puster Valley to the boarder of the Venetian plain, it leads through the Braies and Ampezzo Dolomites, the mountain regions of Agrodo and Belluno.
The northern part of the alpine path starts at the charming Braies Lake and leads to the romantic Fanes reign on good paths. The climbing paths at the majestic peaks provide experienced and active tourists a big adventure. After crossing the Via Dolomiti road you have a view of the splendid mountain basin of Cortina d'Ampezzo, then you hike along the characteristic rocks of the Cinque Torri, the Nuvolau, and the Croda da Lago.
On easy paths you reach the beautiful Val di Zoldo and can admire the royal rock figure of Pelmo. The crossing of the Civetta mountain group - either on the hiking or alpine path - brings you to the most impressive 6th degree mountains in the entire Dolomites.
When reaching the Moiazze mountain group you get to a more secluded and romantic mountain area, which is probably less famous, but maybe even more charming. The Támer - San Sebastiano, Talvenà and Schiara mountain groups provide hikers with pioneer feelings.
The fantastic crossing of the Dolomites ends in the vast and green Val Belluna and in the region of Belluno. From here you can climb the panoramic Nevegal - Col Visentin ridge, from where you can enjoy a view of numerous Dolomite peaks to the north, and the Venetian plain to Venice and the Adriatic to the south.
Information on opening times and phone numbers of huts (so you can book in advance), as well as train and bus connections from Longarone back to the point of departure are available in the Tourism Association from June.
Alpine Dolomites Hiking Path No. 3
The term "Dolomites Hiking Path" describes an extensive crossing from north to south, a type of guided strolling in these beautiful and famous mountains, which was mainly popular amongst alpinists from the other side of the Alps, and is now also popular in Italy.
The alpine paths in the Dolomites area offers dedicated hikers long hikes with the most varied mountain adventures (some are famous and visited by many people, others are less renowned). Normally, after a day-tour the hikers stop in one of the huts, in mountain hotels or fixed bivouacs, in some cases also public huts on pastures.
The main route mainly leads along heights of between 1,500 and 2,500 metres on alpine paths, which are well sign-posted and secured at more difficult sections. More difficult variations with demanding and exposed paths (sometimes fixed-aid climbs), or deviations from the route in order to climb nearby peaks and special panoramic spots, are recommended for experienced and trained mountaineers.
"Alpine Path No. 3" begins in Villabassa and ends in Longarone. It leads to the mountain massifs of Picco di Vallandro Mountain, Monte Piana, Monte Cristallo, Sorapìss, Monte Pelmo, Monte Rite, and Bosconero.
The hiking stages:
- from Villabassa (1,154 m) to Prato Piazza (2,000 m)
- from Prato Piazza to Carbonin or Misurina
- from Carbonin-Misurina to the Tre Croci Pass
- from the Tre Croci Pass to the Vandelli Hut
- from the Vandelli Hut to San Vito di Cadore

- from Cibiana Pass to Longarone.
Information on opening times and hut telephone numbers (so you can book in advance), as well as train and bus connections from Longarone back to the point of departure are available in the Tourism Association from the middle of June.
