Sesto Culture: Architecture prize
The architecture prize for "New Alpine Architecture" is an initiative of quot;Sesto Culture and was awarded for the first time in 1992. Constructions in Alpine regions are judged, whereby each tendering focuses on a different emphasis. At the fourth prize awarding since 1992, in 2006 the focus was mainly on buildings, which are important for the survival of villages, and which are of major importance with regard to the future of alpine regions like supermarkets, heat and power stations, community buildings, infrastructures, etc.
Architecture initiative from Sexten
The high-grade jury with Friedrich Achleitner (Vienna), Sebastiano Brandolini (Milan), Manfred Kovatsch (Munich), Bruno Reichlin (Geneva) and Günther Vogt (Zurich) awarded two first places and 29 awards during the course of the fourth prize ceremony. The 419 facilities from all Alpine regions show that modern constructions in the mountains have gained in importance in communities, but also for business and private clients.
2006: two first prizes, honour and special prize
The first prize was awarded to two projects in equal measures: to the girl's boarding school of the Disentis convent school by Gion A. Caminada, which precisely and independently fills a gap that resulted from the demolition of a former secondary building, yet seeks a connection to the available substance, and the MPREIS supermarket in Wenns by Rainer Köberl and Astrid Tschapeller, which contributes to the topographically difficult and demanding village in an intelligent way.
Due to his special performance, Othmar Barth received a lifetime achievement award. For the first time, the dedication of the builder for modern architecture was also honoured with a special prize, and the MPREIS Company for its effort for high-quality architecture in the construction of business and industrial buildings.
